I've updated to the latest BOINC server code, which now supports badges! Badges have been assigned to users and teams with the top 1%, 5%, and 25% recent average credit. These badge assignments will be updated daily. Thanks for your contributions! |

Hello ! If I understand well, this DB structure ? will allow only the top 25 % crunchers to receive badges ? If this is the case, this would be against the BOINC's philosophy of calculating during the "non-use" of computers. If this is not the case, then accept my appologies, have misuderstood. However, this is what NFS just released ... :/ Not fair at all for all the crunchers crunching on "small" machines ... or during spare time Thank You, Kind Regards, Philippe |

Hi Nice with badges, but not like this ! Badges must be given based on the total time of hours each individual has donated to project !! And when you get one, you Keep it :-) A badge means nothing today, if i loose it tomorrow ! regards morgan |

The current setup is just the BOINC server code default. We should have a discussion about what additional badges we would like. Credit milestones? I don't have credit breakdowns by app in the database, so I can't use that unfortunately. Other ideas? |

Thanks Greg for taking this discussion. Credit milestone is the normal way of giving out badges by other project. and it do not have to count backward,, starting counting today or later is legal ;) |

The current setup is just the BOINC server code default. We should have a discussion about what additional badges we would like. Credit milestones? I don't have credit breakdowns by app in the database, so I can't use that unfortunately. Other ideas? It would be possible to implement this function as a number of other projects already do this (PrimeGrid, YOYO, WCG), and then badges can be awarded for the amount of credit gained for each application. However a number of contributors may not like this as it neglects past contributions. So in this case you would not worry about the individual applications and just award a badge for the total amount of points contributed towards the project for all applications. If you make the statement that badges are to be awarded from a certain point onwards, I don't really see how they could complain too much. A badge acknowledging past contributions could be given to individuals who gained a certain level, separated from any new badge that implements individual application badges. This could be a different coloured star next to each name denoting certain credit levels, and then the new badge, for the individual application badges. If volunteers are no longer contributing currently, then they may at least still get a badge acknowledging what they already have contributed. If they start contributing again then they will be able to work towards another badge for the new work done. Hope this makes some sense. Conan |

Other ideas? Look at other projects...e.g.: Collatz, Asteroids, Numberfields, PrimeGrid, Yoyo, WCG, GPU Grid, Enigma, WuProp, OProject... |

Conan makes a very rational argument. I can see a catch-all badge for past contributions if, going forward, you'd like to implement badges by application. |

As of this afternoon, I am recording contributions by app. Here's my proposal. There will be four user badges for total contributions: 1. Total contribution since the beginning of the project 2. Contribution to 14e since this afternoon (January 3, 2014) 3. Contribution to 15e since this afternoon 4. Contribution to 16e since this afternoon (This includes 16e and 16e V5) After a survey of other projects, these levels look appropriate: 10k 100k 500k 1m 5m 10m 50m 100m 500m So most users will get a total contribution badge as soon as they are released, and everyone will start at 0 for the per app badges. I welcome suggestions for level names and images. |

Greg, we need to think about more badges, 750m and 1000m. |

It might be better to motivation for volunteers, make badges every 100m. For example the difference between the 100 and the 500 are "brutal" Its years constantly crunching for average non-server farm volunteers)) but also we need make new badges to 2B for server usersvolunteers This project is working excellent. Could be focus the admin on badges now. maybe) My suggestion is after 100m make a different color every 100m until 1B. After 1b make 200m badge step.. |

I know badges are not a hot topic here, but I'm going to suggest that some intermediate badges levels are appropriate, specifically: 250K, 2.5M, 25M, 250M |

Hi all, Can someone please enlighten me which wu apps are for which badges? ie - lasieved - app for RSALS subproject, uses less than 0.5 GB memory lasievee - work nearly always available, uses up to 0.5 GB memory lasievef - used for huge factorizations, uses up to 1 GB memory lasieve5f - used for huge factorizations, uses up to 1 GB memory 14e 15e 16e Thank you |

I know badges are not a hot topic here, but I'm going to suggest that some intermediate badges levels are appropriate, specifically: 250K, 2.5M, 25M, 250M The perpetrators should really have had second thoughts when they came up with *10 *5 *2 *5 *2 etc. Some of us have just an occasional (typically laptop) computer. Some have a normal desktop running most of the day. Some have both. Some have a gaming computer with lots of unused power. Some have a computer park. The scale needs to encompass many orders of magnitude - with incentive for everybody. That means a relatively even geometric progression. So - decide how many approximately even levels within *10 - and stick to it ! |
