To finish the 10M770 in this grant period, the 64-bit Linux 16e v5 sieving speed needs to triple for the next couple of months.

If you have a 64-bit linux machine free, please consider contributing to the sieving. If you are contributing using 64-bit linux computers, consider changing their "location" in the host details screen linked from http://escatter11.fullerton.edu/nfs/hosts_user.php to a currently unused one, then setting that location to get only lasieve5f workunits in your NFS@Home Preferences at http://escatter11.fullerton.edu/nfs/prefs.php?subset=project.

Finally, let other potential contributors know that we can use their help for the next two months. Thanks!

I would be interested in lending a hand with Linux work units if somebody could provide me with the best distro and how to install on a hard drive step-by-step. Am I correct in saying that the hard drive needs to be partitioned for memory use ect? I would be jewel booting with Windows 7.I have a 1 TB Western digital drive that I can install Linux on

I use Ubuntu. Didn't have any experience with Linux, but it was easy to setup a dual boot installation on a Win 7 system.

Just go to http://www.ubuntu.com/download and follow the directions.

Doubtless there are "better" distros - Ubuntu is often called Windows-lite - but it's fast and easy to maintain (for me anyway).

Just my $0.02.

Thanks for the tip. I've used the Ubuntu windows installer before, this time I am going to install Ubuntu the proper way as I believe it will work faster. I am aware of the best way to format the drive now I will look at doing this over the coming week

If you increase credit, even if temporarily and just for the 16ev5 app, the crunchers will come. PrimeGrid gives credit bonus for some applications, why don´t you?
