Team info
Description

Are you nervous about going to college for the first time? Don’t worry; you’re not the only one. It’s quite natural to feel the chills, because homeschooling limits your peer interaction and as a result of which, you are not totally confident about going to college. I realized this when I had to do my essay on the steps you need to take to prepare for college.

Homeschooling is a great alternative for high school, undoubtedly. But like everything else, it has its own pros and cons. The negative point about homeschooling is – you need to stay home and learn, either from a tutor, or your parents. What can be the possible drawbacks of homeschooling are mentioned below:

  • It limits the amount of time you spend with people of your generation. This means you’re not aware of the latest trends and ways of teaching that are normally known to a child that goes to school.
  • You have little idea of what is popular and what is not, if you do not have a group of friends. You miss out on the things that need to be kept in mind while talking to people.
  • You miss out on the competition. Competition is a crucial element in the process of self-improvement. If you do not know what you’re up against, you will have no idea how to prepare.
  • No extracurricular activities for you. I mean, you can have hobbies and you might be very good at them, but the actual spirit of extracurricular activities is the peer that is involved.

There are a lot of other things that you miss out on while you are homeschooling. But let us not talk about the negative aspects of homeschooling; there are many advantages to it as well. What actually is worth discussing here is how does one prepare for college when they have not attended high school?

Fret not, for nothing is impossible. Here we have a list of things you need to put on your checklist and see to it that you uncheck them. Having done it, you will no longer be insecure or nervous. Let’s see them:

  • You need to go out and be social. This will help boost your confidence, and you will have an idea about how and what of a social interaction.
  • Participate in sports, be it your neighborhood or a club. This will help you get more time to interact with people your age and understand their mentality, and how to deal with them.
  • Use internet to know about the latest trends, educational methods and technology. This knowledge will help you bond with more people in college, and thus, will make it easier for you to adjust in college.
  • Join some part time job, such as professional essay writing service, tutoring smaller kids etc. This will help you save for your pocket money in college, because there are a lot of things in college that will require you having a little extra in your wallet.

There is a lot to experience is college for any homeschooler. The only advice here is – open your mind to new things, and inculcate what you think is good.
