The new machine is up! (It´s been 2 weeks) and it doesn´t look like it will ever run Windows. The AMD Phenom II x6 is Waaay faster than the old laptop, assuming 16e work units are comparably sized to the 15e work units. The box is getting through them at 45 minutes apiece or so, compared to 2 hours apiece before.

So how far down the list is my favorite, 2^1061-1?

It wasn't the power supply..it was the motherboard...so NFS cycles will have to await my personal new PC...another week...

Can a rationale be stated for the ordering of the computations, beyond rough approximate size of the problem??? <chant> </chant>

somewhat dumb questions here:
We have some factors...how do we *prove* that those factors are themselves prime rather than simply probably prime?

And the cunningham book leaves me confused as to exactly what 7,749L means...can you explain briefly?

See thread under www.mersenne.org.

P.S. The laptop power supply died last weekend, will be replaced in a few days and I'll start sending NSF@home some compute cycles again. Might happen sooner as I have another computer I'm bringing up, but it's under a GHz..
And it turns out I know B Dodson from a previous life. Long lives MPQS (or was that SPQR?, for the sign on the banners of the roman legions, Senatus Que Populi Romana, the Senate and the People of Rome)

Gentlemen:

Exploring my stats tonight. I'm running Windows XP on an older laptop (Dell XPS M1210) that doesn't quite have enough memory to do the 16e sieves and 500M of ECM at the same time. Compared to Gimps/Primenet/www.mersenne.org (where Batalov and I have talked a bit, and one CPU on this machine does ECM) I lose a few credits due to scheduling issues. (I'd call NSF@home a bit more military in its scheduling style, with the 15e work units taking the machine about 2 hours each, and things not working too well with interruptions to the internet connection and/or the computing itself.)

Now tonight, I have two WUs that acquired computation errors as follows:
(the other one refers to a different w.u. and a different special q that does not divide.)

1) Can I rerun the W.U. to see if this is a random error on my machine, which is by no means overclocked and running in a relatively cool room?

2) Or is this a programming problem that you guys want to hunt down?
