Just wondering as I have passed 10,000 (Bronze), for 15e-small, back in the middle of December 2021, and have now moved to over 15,000 but still no Badge for that level.

The 16e-small popped up soon after I passed the 10,000 point level, just not the 15e-small.

It worked for a while but all 16e small work units are failing again.

The normal 16e work units work fine as do all other types, just not the 16e small types.

I seem to be no longer able to run the 16e small number work units. They all fail with an exit code of 255, whatever that means.

All other work unit types work fine including the 16e work units but not not the small 16e.

See work unit 226960709 as an example

Your internal challengers are they going to be along the lines of Primegrid? and how they have their own challengers for various applications.

It is often a good way to boost the processing of a sub-project (application) that is not as popular as say one that awards more points (for example 14e and 16e).

That should work quite well.

The timer would be good so people know when the challenge starts.

I don't know how you would do the prize thing. The POGS (SkyNet) project awards prizes and even sends them around the world to the winner (I think things like cups, shirts, caps and star charts and a few other things).
I don't know about other projects, some of them were going to do things like POGS does (even SETI has tried this), the internal Stat page showing the winners would be all some winners would really need but others might want more.
Can't really award points for winning it would cause a lot of friction I believe.

I have over 100 of these, only the 15e type, 14 and 16 are running fine.

I am stopping 15e from being downloaded in my preferences till the problem is fixed.

Just wondering if it is possible to add the individual applications in a list on our accounts that show how many points we have per application.

From this we would then know how many points are needed for the next badge level?

Primegrid and Yoyo both do this.

So if we find we are short on a certain application we can select this and gain the required points to get the next badge level.

Just a thought as I don't see anywhere how many points I have on a per application basis.

The badges could also be placed next to individuals names, when looking at the stats one could see what others have.

Thanks for the badges, great work.

The current setup is just the BOINC server code default. We should have a discussion about what additional badges we would like. Credit milestones? I don't have credit breakdowns by app in the database, so I can't use that unfortunately. Other ideas?

It would be possible to implement this function as a number of other projects already do this (PrimeGrid, YOYO, WCG), and then badges can be awarded for the amount of credit gained for each application.

However a number of contributors may not like this as it neglects past contributions. So in this case you would not worry about the individual applications and just award a badge for the total amount of points contributed towards the project for all applications.

If you make the statement that badges are to be awarded from a certain point onwards, I don't really see how they could complain too much.

A badge acknowledging past contributions could be given to individuals who gained a certain level, separated from any new badge that implements individual application badges.
This could be a different coloured star next to each name denoting certain credit levels, and then the new badge, for the individual application badges.

If volunteers are no longer contributing currently, then they may at least still get a badge acknowledging what they already have contributed.
If they start contributing again then they will be able to work towards another badge for the new work done.

Hope this makes some sense.

It is more likely that BOINC has deemed that NFS is behind in amount of resources it has used so far and is in catch up mode.
When BOINC has decided that NFS has made up the resource deficit it will start downloading work for the other projects as well and they then all should be running together.

I would not worry too much about it as BOINC will average out the resource share over the long term and they will all get their share.

Also if the other projects have longer running work units then the shorter running NFS will appear to take over as you will process less long work units compared to the short work units of NFS but total hours processed will be about the same, and that is what BOINC is looking at.
