21) Message boards : Questions/Problems/Bugs : Error's while Computing ? (Message 610)

I hadn't noticed before today but I'm amazed at the amount of Error While Computing 16e Wu's I have. I was checking some one else's Box's and seen he had quit a few so decided to check mine & seen I had a Ton of them myself on every Box.

Even my Stock running Box's have them so it's not due to OC'ing. Seems like an awful waste of Resource time to get that many & probably one reason why there so little participation here other than the Admin themselves.

It could be just the Windows OS Machines that are affected by this as I don't notice it so much on the Linux Box's ... I'm running at least 4GB of Memory on every Box I have & am only running 3 Cores on the Quads & 6 on the 6 Core Box's which have 12GB of Memory so lack of Memory shouldn't be a problem.

The GPU request is a feature of the new BOINC clients. It can be ignored. However, it appears that you only have the lasieved client selected in the NFS@Home preferences for that computer. As is usually the case, there is currently no work for that client. Make sure that at least lasievee is selected.

2172 NFS@Home 11/22/2009 4:44:06 AM Starting task S6p323_117456_0 using lasievee version 107

As you can see I do have the lasievee selected as I have always had, all my Box's have a full Cache (200) of the lasievee Wu's except for 1 Box that refuses to Download more than a dozen or so and then waits until it almost runs out & then Downloads a Dozen or so more & repeats the Process. I've checked everything I can on the Box to figure out why that is so but can't find anything.

I've reset the Debts on it, increased the contact time locally & tried a few other things but it still won't Cache more than a Dozed or so Wu's @ 1 Time ...

PS: I figured it out finally, I have 1 PicEvolvr Wu on that Box that is at 360 hr's of Processing & 95% Done, well it stopped running yesterday & 4 NFS were running instead of 3 along side the 1 PicEvolvr like it had been so I jacked up the Resource Share to PicEvolvr trying to get it to start running again.

The PicEvolvr has a Dec 6'th Deadline & the NFS Wu's have a Nov 25'th Deadline & now for some reason the PicEvolvr won't run anymore. The only reason I can think of is because of the Deadline it's letting the NFS Wu's run because of their shorter Deadline.

I hate leaving a Wu with that many Hours sitting on a Box, if something goes wrong the Wu could be lost & all the Processing time with it. The only thing I can do is wait for it to start up again or Suspend the NFS Project so it forces it to start again but then I lose Processing time on 3 Cores doing that because it will take a good 24-36 hours more to finish that last 5% on the PicEvolvr Wu ...

For some reason at least 1 Box of mine keeps requesting GPU Work. It's about out of work now, don't know if it will request CPU work when it runs out or not ... I suppose we can thank our wonderful PITA BOINC Client for this ... :)

Just had 8 of the 1GB lasievef Wu's running on my i7 with 6GB of Memory but it locked up, I didn't Abort them off that Box last night just wanting to see if it would lock up if enough of the 1GB Wu's started running. I Aborted the 1GB Wu's now though after seeing it would lock up ...

Okay, but the 1GB Wu's could still start up because you have brief periods where the NFS Wu are using hardly any memory right after they start up. It takes a few Minutes for the lasievee Wu's to jump up to 357-358, if a 1GB lasievef Wu were to start up during that brief period then BOINC probably thinks there's enough Memory for it to run when there isn't once all 4 Wu's get up to full Memory Usage ....

But does BOINC Know which Wu's will use 1GB & which will only use 357MB, it may get confused with different requirements for Wu's from the same Project ???

All my Computers have at least 2GB of Memory & is why BOINC will Download the lasievef Wu's thinking there is enough Memory to run them. Problem is when your running 4 @ 1 time then there isn't enough Memory & why the Lockup's occur.

Even if only 1 lasievef were to run & 3 of the 500MB Type too your still short of memory. The lasievee ones seem to use only 357-358MB of Memory & is why I can get away with running 4 of them with only 2GB of Memory on some Box's.

Before I went to bed last night I Aborted all the lasievef one's (Sorry) and my Box's ran okay overnight with none Locked up this morning so that's the route for me I guess.

I didn't know that, Thanks, I'll give that a try because I just found 2 more Box's that had the Wu's running over 10 Hr's ...

PS: Problem is you can't get work for the Low Memory one probably because that's what most people want.

I've had 3 Box's since last night Lock up because of the NFS Wu using upwards of 1GB of Memory. I observed this on all 3 Box's, the Wu uses no CPU & the Memory Requirement just Spikes or keeps climbing until the Computer locks up. All you can do is Abort the offending Wu when noticed and make sure the next one on the Box doesn't do the same thing as I had to Abort 3 straight Wu's on 1 Box for the abnormal Memory Usage.
